    Race Rules & Information 2008

  1. Cut-off times: Full Marathon 5 hours. Half Marathon 3 hours.
  2. No seconding will be allowed.
  3. As this is a footrace, no wheelchairs or prams will be allowed on the course.
  4. No private vehicles will be allowed at the start or along the route. THIS WILL BE ENFORCED.
  5. Entrants must wear club colours and licence numbers.
  6. Age Group ID tags must be worn on the front and back to qualify for age category prizes.
  7. All entrants must display two numbers on their vests. The race number on the front and licence number on the back.
  8. If you are not in posession of a valid, current licence, then you must purchase a temporary licence. These are available @ R15.00 each.
  9. All temporary license runners compete in the senior category.
  10. Minimum age restriction on the day of the race - 21km = 16 years , 42km = 20 years.
  11. Closing date for entries 9th June 2008, OR BEFORE if a total of 6, 500 entries is received prior to the closing date.
  12. 1000 Places will be reserved for the Full Marathon, 5, 200 for the Half Marathon.
  13. NO CHANGING from the Full Marathon to the Half Marathon or visa versa will be allowed.
  14. Post Entry forms to "Pick 'n Pay Knysna Forest Marathon", P O Box 1306, KNYSNA, 6570.
    (Cheques payable to: "Knysna Forest Marathon". NO POST DATED CHEQUES.)
  15. Online entries will be available from 1st April 2008 at www.gardenroute.co.za.
  16. No fax or telephonic entries will be accepted.
  17. Confirmation of all entries will be sent. We do do not accept responsibility for unconfirmed entries.
    Confirmation postcards or ID required at registration.
  18. Entrants must register at Loerie Park on Friday evening between 16h30 and 23h00 or on the morning of the race from 05h30 to 06h30. There will be NO registration at the start of the Pick 'n Pay Cape Times Knysna Forest Marathon.
  19. At registration you will receive your race number, T-shirts and final instructions.
  20. Buses and taxi's will be used to transport runners to the start in the forest. These vehicles will leave from the outside of Loerie Park from 04h45 onwards. NB. ALL FULL MARATHON runners must catch a bus or taxi before 06h00 to be on time for this year's earlier start at 07h00.
  21. A tog bag vehicle will be on hand to transport your tog bag back to Loerie Park.
  22. For your comfort, tents will be erected and fires lit at the start in the forest. There will also be free tea, coffee and biscuits for the competitors.
  23. Please catch an early bus to the start, as the start will not be delayed for late arrivals.
  24. Prize giving will be held at Loerie Park at 12h00. You must be present to be eligible for the big lucky draw prize.
  25. Refreshments and food will be on sale at Loerie Park from 14h00 on the Friday before the race and on the race day.
  26. Join us for a full afternoon of fun and festivities at the finish on the race day.
  27. There will be a 5km Fun Run from Loerie Park starting at 7:30. Entry Fee R12.00. (Participants in this event are not eligible for a t-shirt).
  28. A voluntary donation of R5 or more, to "Epilepsy South Africa", will be appreciated.
  29. New Balance shoes and clothing will be on sale at the registration tent on Friday and Saturday.

  31. Results will not be posted to competitors after the race. They will be available on the Marathon Club and Online Entry websites a few days after the race.

Indemnity & Waiver
The race is held under the rules of ASA and ASWD.  Participants in the Pick n’ Pay Forest Marathon, Half Marathon, 5km Fun and related activities ( “the Event”) acknowledge that although all precautions have been taken by the organising body, there may be dangers inherent in participation in the Event.  Participants voluntarily assume such risks and waive all claims of whatsoever nature and howsoever arising in relation to the Event against any parties, including but not limited to the organising body, sponsors, advertisers, local authorities, directors, employees and suppliers of these parties and any individual, official, marshal or agent (“the Parties”).  Participants irrevocably indemnify the Parties against any liability and claims of any nature whatsoever and howsoever arising (whether directly or indirectly, whether from negligence, albeit gross and/or from involvement in or passage to or from the Event) including but not limited to liability for delay, inconvenience, accident, death, injury, illness to their person, or loss of control of participants.  Parents or guardians authorising a minor’s participation in the Event hereby consent to such minor being bound to the aforegoing and further indemnify the Parties to the extent, if any, to which such minor is not capable of waiving his/her rights as stipulated above.  Also, I grant permission to Pick n’ Pay Cape Times Knysna Forest Marathon and its authorised agents to use my name, photographs, video-tapes, broadcasts, telecasts, advertising promotions or other account of the event free of charge.
